Poker Bluffing Definition

Poker bluffing means betting or raising with a weak hand in online poker games. Poker bluffing is an essential skill for a poker player, and it’s essential to learn how and when to bluff if you want to win in poker.

When to Bluff

You need to learn in depth about when to do poker bluffing and when not too. Poker bluffing is not as easy as it sounds, it requires lots of practice.

Bluff from early position.

Bluff in hands where you have shown weakness rather than strength.

Bluff small pots in online poker games.

Bluff when you take three cards in draw, not when you take one.

Bluff when your opponent will not even think you would bluff here.

When Not to Bluff

Most poker players bluff from last position in online poker games. Many of them bluff in big pots. Most people bluff after they raised before the flop. Don’t bluff in these situations.

Do not bluff serially. You should not bluff when your opponents are expecting that you will bluff. Not bluffing can help at times confusing the opponent to the core.

Poker bluffing requires the application of poker odds. If you have arrived at some sure odds of your opponent your bluff should be more targeted to that particular opponent. Tight and aggressive games coupled with poker bluffing is a winning poker strategy.

What is Bankroll Management?

Bankroll management is a winning poker strategy where you play at certain limits to avoid losing all of your poker bankroll due to bad runs of cards. Many players who play online poker games and loose money claim they’re simply unable to keep a balance online. If you’re one of those players who can’t seem to keep a roll, this article might be just what you’re looking for.

Simple Bankroll Management Rules

Every poker player wants to give themselves the best opportunity to win a maximum amount of profit whilst keeping the risk of going broke minimal. This is where the rules of bankroll management come into play.

Rule #1: You absolutely must play within your poker bankroll if you want to play online poker games and make money. The simplest way to explain it is to look at the following example. Take two players and pit them against each other in a zero-sum game (such as flipping a coin, where each player has an expected win/loss rate of exactly 0%). One player has a finite poker bankroll. The other has an infinite bankroll. Given infinite repetitions of the game, the player with the finite roll will eventually go broke.

Rule #2: Enter a cash game with 5% of your poker bankroll and 2% for tournaments. This would normally mean that if you had a $100 bankroll, your maximum buy in should be $5. That’s 20 buy ins.

If you intend to playing online poker games for real money, it is essential that you exercise good bankroll management skills.

Rule #3: Don’t monitor your balance. If you’re following the first rule and playing with a legit poker bankroll, then you’re in little-to-no risk of going broke. If the number goes up, so does your spirits. But it only takes one beat to make that number go down. And if you’re still checking your balance, seeing that smaller number will make you feel bad.

As soon as you have that thought, you’ve started chasing your losses. You’re going to start forcing your play to get back to where you think you should be. The only way to get it back fast is to jump limits and take a shot at a big score. This breaks rule #1, and is the first step to going broke.

Bankroll management is a key to becoming a successful poker player. Breaking these rules will result in 99% of players going broke.

If you are looking for a winning poker strategy, you must learn in Texas Hold’em which starting poker hands are good and which ones should be folded preflop.

Who is the Poker Shark

Are you a Poker Shark or Poker Fish? Look around the table. If you’re not sure who the fish is, it’s you! A poker shark is an expert poker player who usually wins. And a poker fish is quite an opposite, it’s usually an amateur player. At the poker table, a poker shark looks for the fish and eats their chips up.

5 Tips on How to Become a Poker Shark

So here’ are some tips for poker newbies on how to become a poker shark.

Tip #1: Do NOT Play too Many Hands

Most beginners are so ready to play that they will play even the worst poker starting hands. Be patient and fold if you have too.

Tip #2: Do NOT Freak Out

Bad beats, losing sessions, annoying opponents and many other factors will make you angry. Keep it cool and do not let your emotions sway your judgment at the table, this is the way to go if you want to become a poker shark.

Tip #3: DO Use Poker Odds Calculator

Many beginning players do not understand pot odds, and they often call too much. Use poker odds calculator and other helpful tools until you really get it.

Tip #4: Do NOT Imitate Other Players

Be yourself and play with your own style is very important at the poker table. Many beginners are trying to copy something that they saw on TV. Every poker player has many bad habits and by copying them you take over their mistakes as well. Most of the plays in poker are highly unique and require unique decisions.

It is important to understand how to make decisions at poker. Succeeding at poker is not done through imitation; rather, it is done through understanding the complexities of the game.

Tip #5: Do NOT be Superstitious

Just like many baseball players believe that wearing the same sock for entire season will bring they team a good luck, poker players believe in changing seats, wearing same glasses or something else. Just because gambling involves randomness and factor of luck a lot of players still believe in superstition and that is why many of them forget that the main aspect of success in poker is to play well. Luck evens itself out over the long run. If you play well, you will win. If you do not play well, you will lose. It’s as simple as that.

And finally, do NOT play against poker sharks if you see that competition is too tough for you and you can not afford to play, better find another game. Start with a low limit and get a lot of practice.

Winning Poker Strategy: Take Players Notes

Winning Poker Strategy

The winning poker strategy when your play online poker games is to take players notes. This concept is extremely important when playing poker for real money online. Not taking notes on your opponents is a costly habit. Especially beginners fall into this trap.

Taking players notes is one of the main advantages online poker has over casino-room poker, and it’s a winning poker strategy. Because online you cannot see your opponents, it is much more difficult to analyze any tells or habits that your opponents may have. Moreover, these tells are a lot less reliable than in real life – if only for the fact that sometimes two or three people play under the same account.

You have no reason not to take players notes and to make the same mistake twice against someone. The best part about this – is that most people are oblivious to the note taking system, and their systems are quickly noticed and forever recorded in your notes! This offers you the significant advantage in playing online poker games, and that’s a winning poker strategy.

Take Players Notes

When you play online poker games, take players notes, because it is entirely possible to be at a poker table full of unknowns. This is especially true on some of the larger sites, such as Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars, PokerStars, where the player base is so large that it is simply impossible to get to know every single player. But the note-taking feature which allows to take players notes offered by most sites does make this process a lot easier, and it’s a winning poker strategy.

Example:

Players Notes for : REALMONEY87

Loose Player, Consistently Bets the Dealer Button. Played KK with ace on the board to the river after multiple raises.

Check/Raised with low pair made trips on the river. Plays under hands to the end.

While most online poker sites have a very large number of limit and no-limit hold’em tables, at some games the player base is usually not nearly that big which means that within a certain period of time, you should be able to create a list of notes and records.

Every time that you play online poker games and you notice a very good or very bad play by someone, every time that you see patterns in one’s play, you can simply take players notes and write that down.

Now, the next time that you will be playing at the same table with this person, these same players notes will still be there, so you will know immediately that this is that guy who calls raises with king-ten offsuit. Or that’s the guy who only bets made hands and who almost never semi-bluffs.

This type of information is just invaluable, and even more so if you are someone who actively seeks to play online poker games with specific players and who is always on the lookout for a winning poker strategy. If you play on sites where the player base is not that large, or if you like to play certain types of games that have a relatively small core group of players, then not taking notes would be the same as leaving money on the table – something unforgivable for the professional player.

Worst Texas Holdem Starting Hands

Get to know the worst poker starting hands. Learning that these poker starting hands are almost always fold’em hands in hold’em is just as crucial to improving your poker game. Let’s take a look at these pokers starting hands:
2-7
When you have a 2 and a 7 poker starting hand, fold. These are the lowest two cards you can have that cannot make a straight. Even if they are suited, they will make you a very low flush, and if either pairs, it’s an awfully low hand.
2-8
With 2 and 8 as your poker starting hand, fold as well. 8 is still very bad for a high card. This hand will not make you rich. Suited or not, this is a fold’em hold’em hand.
3-8 and 3-7
The 3 makes this hand able to beat the two above it, but with the 3-8 you still can’t make a straight and the 3-7 still, well, just fold.
2-6
This is not a good starting hand at all. Against even four players, this hand will lose about 90% of the time. Not good odds.

2-9, 3-9, and 4-9
The only thing these three hands have going for them over the hands above is the 9. If the 9 pairs, you’ll have a middle pair that could still be beat by anyone holding pocket 10s, jacks, queens, kings, or aces, yet you might be fooled by a board filled with low cards into thinking you have the best hand and losing a lot of money. No straights can fill the gap between these cards, either. Beware.
2-10
This hand has a legendary quality because Doyle Brunson captured two World Series of Poker Bracelets with it. But it’s not a good hand — Doyle Brunson is one of the all-time best in the game and unless you’re a Texas road gambler who’s logged thousands of hours at the table, you shouldn’t try and win with the Doyle Brunson.
5-9
Another hand people play because it’s fun is the old 9 to 5, the “Dolly Parton.” If you’re playing to win, it’s not a good idea to play hands because they have a funny name. That may be how you pick the winning horse in a race, but poker’s a marathon, not a sprint, and over the long term there’s no doubt this hand is a statistical loser.
4-7, 4-8, 5-8, 3-6…
All these hands will rarely win, especially unsuited. Toss ‘em. Just toss’em. Yes, even in the little blind. If you see two low cards in the hole, unless you’re in the big blind and you can see the flop for free, fold.
Face card + low card, unsuited
One of the most common mistakes I see beginners make is that when they see any paint in their hand, they play it. J-2, Q-3, K-4 whatever — and most of these hands are losers. They’re junk that may win a few pots, but more often will lose you huge cash when you find the other player has a higher kicker and the winning hand.
Ace + low card, unsuited
This is another common beginner mistake, playing any ace. Again, it may win occasionally, and heads-up it’s a fine hand, but at a table of 4 or more, this hand shouldn’t be played if there’s a raise in front of you. You’re going to be outkicked a lot with Ace-little, and it’s going to feel like a kick in the junk when the other player shows their higher ace.

If you get one of these poker starting hands, it doesn’t mean you can’t win with them but it is highly unlikely you will. To sum it up, the worst poker starting hands are two low-valued unsuited cards that make no promise of creating a straight. If they would create a straight, they are readily beatable straights.

Again, if you have any of the listed worst poker starting hands above, fold ‘em two hole cards. In hold ‘em poker, your hole cards can already say a great deal about your winning odds in hold ‘em poker. Your winning odds when you have the above worst starting hands are smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Waste no chips to see the flop. Fold— that’s the sensible thing to do.

Easy Hold ‘em Poker Strategy. How to Select Best Poker Starting Hands in Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Using a Point System

You don’t have to remember card combination if you make the poker starting hands decision based on points. Assign each of your cards a point value and check your position in the table.

If the number of points in your hand exceed or equal the number of points required taking into account your player position (early, middle, late) and the nature of your cards (pocket pairs, suited cards, unsuited non-pair cards), you should play the hand, otherwise you should fold.

If you are the SB, you can divide the number of required points by 2, provided no one raises. If you are the BB, checking is always an option you should make use of.

Whereas : 9 or ten = 1 point, Jack = 2 points, Queen = 3 points, King = 4 points, Ace = 5 points, 2 suited cards = 1 point, low pair (min. 5 5) = 1 point, medium pair (min. 8 8 ) = 2 points

There is one additional rule to this table: Avoid playing big cards with small kickers (e.g. below 5). This is one limit of the table, as it only considers the total value of your hand, not the individual value of each card. A more conservative approach would tell you that a small kicker would be below 9. In that case, the table takes into account the constraint.

Another limit is that the table does not attribute any importance to sequence cards (e.g. 78), even though such a combination could be considered an advantage.

The table reads as follows: if you are in an early position, you need at least an 88 pair or 2 suited cards with a total value of 5 (e.g. jack / queen) or 2 unsuited cards with a total value of 8 (e.g. Ace queen). As your position becomes more favorable, the number of points required decreases. Notice the sequence 0 1 2 6 8 in the table, which makes it very easy to remember.

As a whole, the table rather corresponds to a conservative Hold ‘em Poker Strategy. However, it can be made more aggressive simply by decreasing each of the number of points required and it will still remain a system.
