Female poker players have been a minority until recently, because poker was considered to be a male conquered sport for a long time. However, the percentage of players who are women has risen quite a lot nowadays.  There are a number of very gifted women in poker who not only cling to their own but are up there encountering it out and taking first places.

Today, online poker is fast becoming a female dominated area. No longer is it a man’s sport.  The number of female poker players is growing vastly. Statistics show that out of every 5 new sign ups, one or two of them are female poker players. Jennifer Harman Bio

Jennifer Harman’s father taught her how to play poker when she was 8. She learned a lot by watching her dad playing. Little girl gained so much knowledge that her father let her play at one of the games and he would call her in to play his hands for him when he was losing at his home game. She’d always win his money back. She became a pro when she was 21.

Living in Reno, Nevada Jennifer Harman was able to play at kinds of local poker tournaments. By age 21, poker became a full time job for Jennifer Harman.  In the 1996 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Harman placed sixth in the $2,500 Hold’em Pot Limit event, and finished in the money at the 1999 WSOP $1,500 Limit Hold’em event. By the year of 2000  she won her first bracelet at WSOP tournament in a game she never played before the actual event… $5,000 No Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw.  In 2002, she won the Limit Holdem event.

Jennifer is married to Full Tilt Poker’s Marco Traniello. They are the proud parents of twin boys and live in Reno, Nevada. Aside from poker, Harman likes nothing better than playing with her dogs.

“It probably helps me to be a woman. In general, most men don’t think women can play. So, what often happens is that they try to run over me. They bluff their money off to me. I guess they see me as a meek little girl and think that I’m easily bluffed. I’m not.”

Daniel Negreanu once said, “In my opinion, she is without a double the best female poker player on the planet, but that’s not a fair title at all. She is also one of the best all-around players in the world – period!”

Perhaps, only Annie Duke, when she focused on her game, could challenge Jen for that title of the best female poker playes.
